Privacy Policy

Our Ethos
At Deadweight Loss, we do not believe that the binary outcomes of modern terms and conditions make any sense. By default, consumers should have a right to privacy. We will never share your private data externally and will dramatically limit what we collect based on our needs to send you information about the blog.
Our website is designed to never advertise and thus, there is little value in collecting personal information from you. However, we have still taken a cookie-less approach that means you are spared a pop-up when visiting. We encourage you to share your email with us to help us better understand our readership numbers, but do not require it. The only benefits from subscribing are a bi-monthly email about recent updates and hiding the call-to-action box that asks you to subscribe.
Information We Collect
When you subscribe to our newsletter, we collect your email address and record your consent to receive updates. We track the timing of these events to help us verify your email and auto-delete your information if you choose not to verify it. If you sign up, but don't verify your email, we will send a reminder a week later. If you do not verify your email in the next week, we will remove your information from your database.
Other Data Collection
We use Umami, an open-source, self-hosted, privacy-focused web analytics company that does not use cookies and is not in the advertising business. The web traffic that it collects is anonymized and independent to this website (ie. not shared between umami instances).
How We Use Your Information
We use your email address solely to send you bi-monthly newsletters. We plan to eventually create a comments system that will require a user to login in order to comment.
Data Storage
Your information is stored securely using industry-standard practices.
Your Rights
You can unsubscribe at any time using the link provided in every email we send.
